Sports and Activities Cover

If you’re planning an adventure-filled holiday packed with exciting sports and activities, ensuring you have the right level of travel insurance is essential. Whether you’re hiking in the mountains, diving into deep waters, or hitting the slopes, accidents can happen, and it’s important to be prepared. Our Sports and Activities Cover provides extensive protection so you can enjoy your holiday worry-free.

Why Do You Need Sports and Activities Cover?

Travel insurance that includes sports and activities cover ensures you’re financially protected if something goes wrong while you’re participating in your favourite activities. Standard travel insurance may not cover certain sports due to their higher risk levels, so adding specific cover can give you peace of mind.

Our policy includes cover for over 110 sports and activities as standard, and for those with a higher risk level, additional cover is available. This means you can tailor your policy to fit your adventurous itinerary, ensuring you’re covered in case of an accident, injury, lost equipment, or trip cancellation.

What’s Included in Our Sports and Activities Cover?

Our Sports and Activities Cover is designed to give you comprehensive protection while engaging in thrilling activities. Key benefits include:

  • Emergency medical expenses: Cover for treatment costs, hospital stays, and medical evacuations, ranging from £5m to £10m.
  • Cancellation cover: Protection for your trip if unforeseen circumstances prevent you from travelling, with coverage up to £10,000.
  • Personal possessions cover: Ensuring your valuables are protected, up to £5,000 per person.
  • 24/7 Emergency Assistance: Providing immediate help when you need it most.
  • Specialised cover for different activity levels: Ensuring you get the right protection based on your chosen activities.

What Activities Are Covered?

NOTE: Some sections of cover will be excluded and special conditions and exclusions will apply while taking part in certain activities, see the individual sport and activity within the Policy Wording for details.

We cover a wide range of activities at different levels of risk. Activities included as standard (Level 1) include:

  • Popular Leisure Sports: Badminton, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, football (including 5-a-side), and cricket.
  • Water-Based Activities: Canoeing (grades 1-3), kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling, and swimming (including with dolphins and whales).
  • Outdoor Adventures: Hiking up to 1,500 metres, go karting and yoga.
  • Fitness and Wellbeing: Aerobics, gym training, and fitness classes such as Zumba and CrossFit.

For more adventurous travellers, Level 2 activities (which require an additional premium) include:

  • Higher-Risk Water Sports: White water rafting (grades 1-3), wakeboarding, jet skiing, and water skiing.
  • Mountain and Trekking Activities: Hiking up to 3,000 metres and glacier walking.

  • Competitive and Endurance Events: Triathlons, Ironman events, and endurance races.

Level 4 activities include high-risk pursuits, such as bobsleighing, and flying (gliding). These require specialist cover, so be sure to check with us before engaging in these activities.

How to Choose the Right Cover

Selecting the right level of sports and activities cover depends on:

  • The activities you plan to participate in: Check which level of cover your activity falls under.
  • The duration of your trip: Ensure you have adequate cover for extended trips.
  • The region you’re travelling to: Certain activities may have location-specific exclusions or requirements.
  • Your experience level: Some activities require certifications or instructor supervision.

Key Considerations When Purchasing Sports and Activities Cover

  • Read the Policy Wording: Ensure you understand which activities are included and any special conditions.
  • Check Equipment Cover: If you’re taking expensive gear like skis, golf clubs, or scuba equipment, make sure it’s adequately covered.
  • Understand Medical Coverage: Adventure activities can lead to injuries, so ensure you have sufficient medical protection.
  • Look for Liability Protection: Some high-risk activities require additional liability cover.
