Family cover explained
What is family travel insurance?
Family travel insurance covers eligible adults and dependent children together under one policy. Depending on the cover selected, it can help with costs arising from cancellation or cutting a trip short, emergency medical treatment abroad, lost or stolen belongings, travel disruption and personal liability.
With Covered2Go, you can choose from Single Trip, Annual Multi-Trip or Longstay cover, with options for holidays in the UK, Europe and worldwide.

Family cover includes:
- Two adults who are spouses or cohabiting partners
- Unlimited financially dependent children aged under 23
- Children who live at home and are in full-time education
- Everyone named on the policy schedule
Kids go free:
Eligible dependent children are included at no additional cost on family policies, subject to the policy terms and eligibility requirements.
Single-parent family cover
Single-parent family cover is also available for one adult and their financially dependent children aged under 23, provided the children live at home, are in full-time education and are named on the policy schedule.
Does the whole family have to travel together?
Adults insured under an Annual Multi-Trip family policy can travel independently. However, children named on a Family or Single Parent Family policy must travel with at least one of the insured adults named on the policy schedule for cover to apply.
Terms, conditions and eligibility requirements apply. Please read the policy wording for full details.

Choose your policy
Single Trip, Annual or Longstay family travel insurance?
The right family travel insurance will depend on how often you travel and how long you plan to be away. Covered2Go offers options for one-off holidays, several trips during the year and extended stays abroad.
Single Trip family travel insurance
Single Trip cover is designed for one particular holiday, with cover arranged around your chosen destination and travel dates. It may suit families taking one main holiday or travelling less frequently.
Annual Multi-Trip family travel insurance
Annual Multi-Trip cover can be a convenient option for families planning several holidays during a 12-month period, such as Easter, summer and half-term breaks. Each trip is normally limited to 31 days, with 45 or 60-day extensions potentially available for an additional premium.
Longstay family travel insurance
Longstay insurance is designed for one extended journey. Cover is available for trips lasting up to 18 months for eligible travellers aged 64 and under, making it suitable for longer holidays, extended visits or family adventures abroad.
Quick guide
- One holiday: consider Single Trip cover.
- Several separate holidays: consider Annual Multi-Trip cover.
- One extended journey: consider Longstay cover.
Annual Multi-Trip cover is not automatically cheaper than separate Single Trip policies. Compare the premium, cover limits and permitted trip durations against your family’s travel plans.

Check your destination before travelling
Make sure every destination on your itinerary is covered by the geographical area shown on your policy. You should also check the latest Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office travel advice before booking and again before you travel.
Cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions and exclusions.
Medical cover
Can family travel insurance cover pre-existing medical conditions?
Yes, Covered2Go considers pre-existing medical conditions for every traveller named on a family policy. You will need to answer the medical questions accurately and tell us about any relevant conditions when getting your quote.
Declaring medical conditions for your family
Relevant medical conditions must be declared for each affected family member. Depending on the condition, you may need to complete a medical screening and pay an additional premium for cover.
If a condition is accepted, this will be confirmed as part of your cover. Medical emergencies relating to a pre-existing condition may not be covered unless the condition has been declared and accepted.

Why accurate medical information matters
Providing complete and accurate medical information helps ensure your family has the right cover. If relevant information is not disclosed, it could affect your cover or whether a claim is paid.
Medical cover is subject to acceptance and the policy terms, conditions and exclusions.
Important exclusions
What isn’t covered by family travel insurance?
Family travel insurance does not cover every situation. The exact exclusions depend on the type of policy and cover selected, but common examples include:
- Inaccurate or incomplete information, including relevant medical conditions that were not declared and accepted when required.
- Circumstances you already knew about when booking the trip or purchasing the insurance, whichever was later, where you could reasonably have expected them to result in a claim.
- Not following official travel advice, including travelling to a destination where the FCDO advises against all or all but essential travel.
- Sports or activities not included within your selected activity level or shown on your policy schedule.
- Belongings that have not been properly protected, including valuables left unattended or placed in checked-in baggage, subject to the policy conditions.
- Claims arising from excessive alcohol consumption where it was reasonably foreseeable that it could impair your judgement, or from being under the influence of drugs not prescribed by a medical practitioner.
- Trips outside the geographical area shown on your schedule or lasting longer than the permitted trip duration.
Check the full policy terms
This is not a complete list. Each section of cover has its own limits, conditions and exclusions, and a policy excess may apply.
