Covered2Go Travel Insurance FAQs

Medical health & emergencies abroad

Covered2go may provide cover for pre-existing medical conditions, so long as these have been declared to and accepted by our Medical Screening Service.

You can complete your medical screening online, simply click here to get started. The link will open a new webpage and you can begin screening immediately.

You can arrange cover for pre-existing medical conditions before or after you purchase your Covered2go Policy, but please note, two transactions will be required i.e., to purchase the policy for medical cover and your Covered2go Policy.

We will be integrating medical screening into our customer journey soon, to further enhance your online experience and we appreciate your patience with us while we get this in place.

If you would prefer to speak to the Medical Screening Service, please call +44 (0)330 311 2648.

You (or your representative) should call an ambulance using the local equivalent of a 999 number, or alternatively by dialing 112 within the EU, and then contact the Emergency Assistance Team.

Buying your policy

Prices vary depending on certain factors, such as age, destination, the trip duration and the level of cover chosen. To obtain a quote, simply click here Get A Quote.

You can buy a policy online using one of the following debit or credit cards: Mastercard, Maestro and Visa. Enter your trip details and follow the process outlined.

Covered2go Travel Insurance uses a secure payment gateway that makes the debit/credit card transaction directly and securely through the bank. We do not have any access to your card details as the payment will be approved or declined by your banking institution. The connection through to your bank uses a 40bit encrypted SSL Web Server Certificate so that the information is encrypted or scrambled making it impossible to intercept or steal. Once the payment has been made your Travel Policy will be instantly confirmed by email.

A policy must start before leaving the UK. You cannot purchase a Covered2go policy if you have already started your travels.

Single Trip & Longstay Policies – The start date and end date of the policy should correspond with the dates of travel (from the date you leave your home address within the UK to the date your return back to your home address). Cancellation cover will become effective on the date the premium is paid and the policy is issued.

Annual Multi Trip Policy – Unlike the Single Trip and Long Stay policy, an Annual policy should start when a holiday is booked (and not the start date of the first trip) so that the pre-travel cancellation cover is in force, as detailed in section 1 of the policy wording. These policies will terminate on the expiry date of your policy, as detailed on your certificate of insurance.

Cover is only available to persons resident in the United Kingdom and is only valid for round trips starting and returning to the United Kingdom. You must have a permanent residential address in the United Kingdom and unrestricted right of entry to the United Kingdom. This also includes residents of The Channel Islands.

Our Annual Multi-Trip Policy provides cover for trips up to 31 days as standard. Trips of up to 45 days and 60 days can be purchased upon payment of an additional premium. Annual winter sports policies have a maximum winter sports trip limit of up to 30 days per period of insurance.

We also offer Single Trip policies of up to 365 days, and a Long Stay Policy of up to 558 days trip duration.

Age restrictions apply to Covered2go policies and are as follows:

  • Single Trip Policies: Maximum Age 99

  • Annual Multi-Trip Policies: Maximum Age 79

  • Longstay Policies: Maximum Age 64

  • Dependent Children Age Limit (All Policies): Financially dependent children, aged under 23 years in full time education

NOTE: If you are aged under 16 years at the time of the accident, the death benefit will be limited to funeral and other reasonable costs up to £1,000 and the permanent total disablement benefit will not apply

Yes. Our Annual Multi-Trip Policy provides cover for trips up to 31 days as standard. Trips of up to 45 days and 60 days can be purchased upon payment of an additional premium. Longer durations may be considered.

There are a number of conditions and exclusions which apply to all our policies. These can be found in the relevant Policy Wordings.

An EHIC or GHIC covers state healthcare, not private treatment.

With an EHIC or GHIC you can get emergency or necessary medical care for the same cost as a resident in the country you’re visiting. This means that you can get healthcare at a reduced cost or for free.

An EHIC or GHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance – it does not cover everything, such as mountain rescue or being flown back to the UK (medical repatriation). Make sure you have both before you travel.

You’ll need to pay in full for treatment if you do not have an EHIC, GHIC or provisional replacement certificate (PRC).

The following European countries do not accept the EHIC or GHIC:

  • The Channel Islands, including Guernsey, Alderney and Sark

  • The Isle of Man

  • Monaco

  • San Marino

  • The Vatican

If your cover does not meet your requirements, please notify us within 14 days of receiving your policy for a refund of your premium. If during this 14 day period you have travelled, made a claim, or intend to make a claim then we are entitled to recover all costs for those services that you have used. If the notice of cancellation is received outside the 14 day cooling-off period no premium will be refunded, however discretion may be exercised in exceptional circumstances such as bereavement or a change to the policy resulting in us declining to cover your medical conditions.

Yes. Covered2go Travel Insurance is an independent insurance provider and a policy may be purchased independently.

You can purchase a group policy through the Covered2go website for up to 14 people. If the group exceeds 14, please email enquiries@covered2go.co.uk providing the following information:

  • All passenger names and dates of birth

  • Dates of the trip

  • Territory area

  • Trip Value (per person)

  • Plus, any other relevant information such as Activities, Cruise cover, Excess Waiver, Business Cover or Winter Sports.

Our policies are designed to cover a wide range of trips and activities. However, we understand that ‘once in a lifetime’ trips are booked from time to time and we work very closely with the Underwriting team to try to cover these eventualities. Please email enquiries@covered2go.co.uk providing full details of the trip for a tailored quote to be requested. Please include the following information:

  • Passenger dates of birth

  • Dates of the trip (Single Trip or Annual)

  • Territory

  • Trip Value (per person)

Also include other relevant information such as Activities, Cruise Cover, Excess Waiver, or Winter Sports extensions. If the activity you intend to do is not listed in the Policy wording, please supply a web link to provide more details and to assist our Underwriters.

You should request to go to the nearest public/state medical facility. If in Europe, you should show your EHIC card, as medical treatment will be free or at a reduced cost.

IMPORTANT: The Policy does not provide cover for private healthcare.

Some hotels will urge people to seek private treatment, however, these facilities vary greatly and are not necessarily equipped to deal with all emergencies. They may also give medical attention at over inflated prices.

Yes, providing that this section is covered under your policy. There is also a sub-limit within the personal money section for cash. Please refer to the policy wording for details on the cover limit for loss of cash.

All the relevant contact numbers are summarised on page 4 of your policy document. These can also be found by clicking the Contact Us tab on the website.

Other

Yes. Our policies do provide cover for irrecoverable sums paid prior to Financial Failure of your transport, accommodation, or holiday provider.

We also provide cover for additional pro rata costs to replace travel arrangements in the event of Financial Failure after your departure.

As is consistent with the treatment of all medical conditions under the policy, the policy does not intend to cover the normal costs or financial losses otherwise associated with pregnancy (including multiple pregnancy) or childbirth. This includes, but is not limited to, delivery by caesarean section or any other medically or surgically assisted delivery which does not cause medical complications. The policy does, however, cover you should complications arise with your pregnancy due to accidental bodily injury or unexpected illness which occurs while on your trip excluding costs incurred during the period between 12 weeks before and 12 weeks after the estimated date of delivery.

We will provide cover for Strikes under the Travel Disruption and Missed Departure sections of our policies:

Travel Disruption – Cover for if an unexpected Strike leads to your arrival at your destination/return journey being delayed for more than 12 hours. Or, cover for if you choose to abandon your trip if your travel carrier cannot get you to your destination within 24 hours.

Missed Departure – Reasonable additional accommodation and public transport travel expenses incurred in reaching your destination if you fail to arrive at the departure point in time to board your public transport due to Strikes.

Our Insurance Certificate contains all the necessary details regarding your policy including any emergency contact numbers that you may need when abroad.

You should also check the entry requirements for the country that you intend to travel to as they may require additional documents to enter the country.  You can check the entry requirements for your destination by checking the FCDO website.

Adults are free to independently travel on their policies, whether this be a Couples or Family policy. However, children listed on Family or Single Parent Family policies must travel with at least one of the adults named on the policy schedule for cover to be provided.

The policy excess refers to the amount of money which you are required to contribute towards a claim.

Extending your policy may be possible depending on the circumstances which have led to you extending your trip. To see if this is something we can cover, please call our after-sales team on 0333 400 7745.
