How does Covered2Go Business Travel Insurance work?

Covered2Go travel insurance can cover eligible leisure, holiday and business trips. Non-manual work is included across Silver, Gold and Platinum cover, while eligible manual work is available as an optional extension.

Choose either Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance, select the cover level that meets your needs and make sure your destinations, trip duration and planned work fall within the policy terms. If you need manual work cover, it must be selected, any additional premium paid and the cover shown on your Certificate of Insurance before you travel.

Included

Non-manual work

Professional, clerical and administrative duties, alongside certain other light-duty roles, are included during an eligible trip.

Optional

Manual work

Eligible manual work may be covered for an additional premium. The extension must appear on your Certificate of Insurance.

Non-manual business travel is already included

You do not need to purchase a separate Business Travel policy for eligible non-manual duties. However, you must still check that your trip, destination, planned activities and any manual work meet the Policy Wording.

What work can be covered?

The nature of your work matters. Make sure your planned duties fall within the policy definition and that any optional manual work cover appears on your Certificate of Insurance.

Included

Non-manual work

The current Policy Wording defines non-manual work as:

  • Professional, clerical or administrative work
  • Classroom teaching or classroom assistance
  • Au pair, nanny or childminding duties
  • Retail, bar and hospitality work involving light duties only

Optional

Manual work

Manual work means general work that does not involve mechanical or industrial machinery, other than handheld power tools, and is undertaken at a height not exceeding two metres.

It does not include certain work, such as:

  • Working offshore or above two metres
  • Ski, snowboard or diving instruction or guiding
  • Trekking guiding requiring ropes or specialist climbing equipment
  • Work with specified dangerous animals or involving hazardous activities

Personal Liability does not apply while working

The Personal Liability section does not cover you while undertaking any form of work. Business Travel Insurance also does not replace any separate professional, public or employers’ liability insurance that you or your employer may require.

Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip Business Travel Insurance?

The right policy will usually depend on how often you travel for work, the duration of each trip and the destinations you need to cover.

One work trip

Single Trip Travel Insurance

Cover for one specific business journey. Single Trip cover is available for eligible travellers up to age 99, with trips lasting up to 365 days, subject to age, destination and eligibility.

Several work trips

Select the correct geographical area

Choose an area that includes every country and relevant stopover on your itinerary. Covered2Go offers European, Australia and New Zealand, and worldwide destination options. Cover is available to eligible UK residents for round trips that start and finish in the UK.

Business Travel Insurance with pre-existing medical conditions

Cover may be available for a wide range of pre-existing medical conditions. Some conditions are covered automatically when the Policy Wording requirements are met, while others require separate medical screening through Millstream Underwriting Limited.

Two separate purchases

At present, customers who require screening need a Covered2Go base travel insurance policy and separate Millstream medical screening cover. You can complete these in either order.

No policy number required

You do not need a Covered2Go policy number to begin screening. If cover is offered, an additional medical premium or special terms may apply. Both covers must be in place before you travel.

Business Travel Insurance FAQs

Covered2Go travel insurance can cover eligible leisure, holiday and business trips. Eligible non-manual work is included as standard across Silver, Gold and Platinum cover. Business-specific benefits can also include replacement personnel costs and cover for eligible business equipment, samples and documents.

You do not need to select an optional extra if your trip only involves eligible non-manual work, as this is already included across Silver, Gold and Platinum cover. You should still check that your duties, destination and trip duration meet the policy terms and whether your employer already provides any relevant insurance.

Non-manual work includes professional, clerical or administrative work. It can also include classroom teaching or assistance, au pair, nanny or childminding duties, and light retail, bar or hospitality work. Please check the current Policy Wording if you are uncertain whether your duties are covered.

When entering your trip details, select “Business Travel (Manual Work)” under “Add optional cover (if required)” before getting your quote. An additional premium will apply, and the cover must be shown on your Certificate of Insurance before you travel.

Eligible manual work is subject to the policy definition, conditions and exclusions. Please check the Policy Wording to ensure your planned duties can be covered.

Cover is available for eligible business equipment that is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed while being carried with you during the trip. This may include items such as laptops or tablets, subject to the policy definition.

The maximum business-equipment benefit is £500 with Silver or Gold cover and £1,000 with Platinum cover. Excesses, evidence requirements, sub-limits, terms and exclusions apply.

If you are medically unable to carry out your duties abroad at a pre-arranged meeting, the policy may cover reasonable additional travel and accommodation costs for a business partner, director or employee travelling from the UK to replace you.

The maximum benefit is £1,000 with Silver, £1,500 with Gold and £2,500 with Platinum cover. Terms, conditions and exclusions apply.

Yes. Eligible non-manual business travel is included with both Single Trip and Annual Multi-Trip policies. If manual work cover is required, the optional “Business Travel (Manual Work)” cover must be selected and shown on your Certificate of Insurance.

Yes. Your Covered2Go policy includes the travel insurance benefits provided by your selected Silver, Gold or Platinum cover level. Depending on your chosen cover, these may include eligible cancellation, emergency medical expenses, baggage and travel-disruption claims.

Yes. The Personal Liability section does not apply while you are undertaking any form of work.

Manual work cover is also subject to specific definitions and exclusions. For example, it does not cover work involving industrial or mechanical machinery, other than permitted handheld power tools, or work undertaken above two metres. Offshore work and certain instructor, guiding, hazardous or animal-related duties are also excluded.

Always read the Policy Wording before travelling.

Eligible non-manual work is included within the price of your Covered2Go travel insurance, so there is no separate optional premium for non-manual business travel.

If you need cover for eligible manual work, an additional premium will apply. The price will be shown when you select “Business Travel (Manual Work)” during your quote. Your overall premium will also depend on factors such as the travellers, destination, trip duration, cover level and any other optional cover selected.
