Planning a holiday with more than sightseeing and relaxing by the pool? Covered2Go travel insurance includes a wide range of sports and activities, with additional cover levels available for more adventurous pursuits.
From hiking and kayaking to scuba diving, skiing and other adventure activities, it is important to check that the activities you plan to take part in are covered at the correct level before you travel.
Level 1 Included
Many sports and activities listed under Level 1 are included as standard.
Four Activity Levels
Choose additional Level 2, 3 or 4 cover where required for your planned activities.
Adventure Activities
Options include higher-altitude hiking, scuba diving, water sports and selected winter sports.
24/7 Assistance
Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day while you are travelling.
How does Sports & Activities Travel Insurance work?
Covered2Go groups sports and activities into four levels. Level 1 activities are included as standard, while Levels 2, 3 and 4 require an additional premium and must be shown on your policy schedule for cover to apply.
The levels build on one another. Selecting Level 2 also provides cover for listed Level 1 activities; Level 3 includes listed Levels 1, 2 and 3; and Level 4 includes listed activities across all four levels.
Check your activity before you travel
Some activities have specific conditions or exclusions, even when the relevant activity level is covered. If your planned activity is not listed in the policy wording, contact Covered2Go before taking part. Cover is not in place for an unlisted activity unless it has been accepted and any required additional premium has been paid.
Which sports and activities are covered?
The correct level depends on the specific sport or activity and, in some cases, factors such as altitude, depth, location or how the activity is undertaken.

Water sports and scuba diving cover
A range of water-based activities appears within the Sports & Activities levels, but the applicable level and conditions vary according to the activity.
Kayaking & Canoeing
Eligible kayaking and canoeing in inland or coastal waters, including white water grades 1–3, is listed at Level 1.
White Water Rafting
Grades 1–3 are listed at Level 1. Grades 4–5 are Level 2 and carry additional conditions and exclusions.
Scuba Diving
Scuba diving to 30 metres is listed at Level 1. Diving to 50 metres is Level 3 and has additional restrictions.
Scuba diving is subject to qualification or supervision requirements. Qualified divers must hold an eligible recognised diving qualification and follow the relevant organisation’s rules, or diving must take place under the constant supervision of a properly licensed diving school. Unaccompanied dives, dives in overhead environments and dives for gain or reward are not covered.
Skiing, snowboarding and Winter Sports Cover
Skiing and snowboarding require the appropriate Sports & Activities level to be selected and shown on your policy schedule. Standard eligible skiing and snowboarding is listed at Level 3, while some higher-risk forms are listed at Level 4.
Level 3 Winter Activities
Includes eligible skiing and snowboarding, snowblading and cross-country/Nordic skiing on marked trails, subject to the policy conditions and exclusions.
Level 4 Winter Activities
Includes selected backcountry, helicopter/snowcat and terrain-park skiing or snowboarding, together with certain other winter activities, subject to specific conditions and exclusions.
When Sports & Activities Level 3 or 4 is selected, the policy’s Winter Sports extension applies, providing eligible benefits for winter sports equipment, replacement equipment hire, the winter sports pack and piste closure, subject to the policy limits, conditions and exclusions.
What can Sports & Activities Travel Insurance cover?
Where your activity is covered at the correct level and the relevant policy terms are met, your wider travel insurance policy may provide protection for a range of unexpected events.
Emergency Medical Expenses
Emergency medical cover ranges from £5 million to £10 million depending on the cover level selected.
Search & Rescue
Up to £50,000 may be available for necessary specialist local search and rescue following an accident while participating in an insured activity, subject to policy conditions.
Cancellation & Curtailment
Depending on the policy level selected, cancellation and curtailment cover is available up to the limits shown in the policy.
24/7 Emergency Assistance
Emergency medical assistance is available while you are travelling if you need urgent help overseas.
Sports equipment: do not assume your general baggage cover protects specialist sports or activity equipment. Sports gear and activity equipment are excluded from the standard Baggage and Personal Belongings section, and sports or activity equipment while in use is also excluded, except where specific policy cover applies.
Important conditions when taking part in sports and activities
Cover depends on following the requirements for your chosen activity. The policy states that you must act reasonably, use recommended safety equipment and protective clothing, and undertake any required training.
Guides & Instructors
Certain activities require you to be accompanied by a professional, qualified and licensed guide, instructor or operator.
Qualifications
Some activities require an appropriate certification or licence. Scuba diving also has specific qualification or supervision requirements.
Activity-Specific Exclusions
Personal Accident or Personal Liability cover may be excluded for certain activities even where the activity itself is covered.
What activities are not covered?
Not every sport or activity can be covered. Section 16 of the policy wording excludes a number of activities and circumstances.
- Taking part in activities at a professional level
- Competing internationally as a national representative
- Hazardous activities or extreme pursuits other than those specifically listed
- Racing, speed trials or time trials

- Caving other than as a sightseeing or tourist attraction
- Motor sports
- Stunt flying or aerobatics
- Dangerous expeditions
- Crewing a vessel more than 60 miles from a safe haven
Other activity-specific exclusions also apply, so always check the full Policy Wording.
Sports Travel Insurance and pre-existing medical conditions
Having a pre-existing medical condition does not automatically mean you cannot take out Covered2Go travel insurance or select Sports & Activities cover.
The policy contains medical screening requirements. With the exception of the conditions specifically listed in the policy as not requiring declaration, medical conditions for which you have received treatment, advice or medication within the previous 12 months must be declared and accepted for the appropriate cover to apply.
